Tangled is a wonderful movie! Pirates of the Caribbean my favorite ride of them all, both the pre and post movie versions! Never heard of the Pin Trading. I'll definitely look into that. Never heard of Kingdom Keepers, so I ordered the Kindle version of the first three. Don't know how soon I'll get around to reading them, but I will!

Sometimes that alone is what is important.

We live in a world where we are paralyzed by paranoia and indecision. We live in a world where the minute I published this blog entry, I regretted it a little. You see, any modicum of my strength as a writer or person with a voice is my ability to comment with honesty about my insights as a human being. It isn't that my vision is any better than anybody else's, it is that I have a capacity to regurgitate it all up like a mama bird, examine it and tell the world, "Look at this."

From my perspective I can tell you two things I believe to be true.

1. When I examine anything like this in any greater detail than I already have, I begin to see the world as a trash bin with nothing worth saving. I lose any sense of hope. Whatever gifts I have to offer are worthless if I have no sense of hope.

2. If we spend all of our time examining and debunking forces that are trying to do something good, if that is the attitude we take towards good things in the face of known bad things, then no good can happen. If no good can happen, then the world truly is a trash bin and there is no reason to have any hope.

I resisted watching The Invisible Children video and I didn't really enjoy or want to write this blog entry. But, in the face of KNOWN EVIL that exists in the world, it was the very least I could do.

The VERY LEAST.

It is an overused quote that, like The Invisible Children movement, has people questioning its origin, but:

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

Joseph Kony is a very evil man who has done many evil things. However, he is only one example of tens of thousands of such men around the world. When you see a video like this one it is important to ask, "why this bad guy and not some other bad guy?"

There is more going on here than meets the eye. Invisible Children is three guys spending $8 million a year making videos about a single person. Before jumping on this bandwagon it might be wise to dig a little deeper into Uganda, Joseph Kony, and Invisible Children.

I suppose I don't find vampires as scary because of the blood consumption because they don't HAVE to kill you. They could chain you up somewhere or simply re-glamour you frequently and "farm you" like a cow for milk. Zombies seem far scarier because they are mindless, seemingly hard to stop, and aren't really even trying to kill you but can so easily. Thanks for the comments Fritz (and between your book and the joke - wow - I feel like I'm onto something about vampires .... lol.)

In the thought you might find this amusing, I'm currently reading Låt den rätte komma in (Let the Right One In). This does a nice job of capturing vampires in my opinion. Ironically, it takes the emasculation you describe in Twilight even further. I didn't pick up on this when I saw the movie, but the book makes it clear that when the vampire (who appears as a little girl) was converted to a vampire she was originally a he... but upon conversion the vampire doesn't have sexual organs. (I'm gathering she appears as a little girl, because after long sleeps she wakes up with less power and this form encourages trust in others.) However, what I like about the vampire isn't so much the emasculation, but the sheer horror of a creature that must consume lives & blood in order to live.

BTW, this was a very amusing discussion I ran across on a swedish eavesdropper website. Drop it in google translate:

Well Greyhawk, it isnt' really anti-mass mailing cards. It is only anti-mass mailing cards when you can't seem to be bothered paying any attention to what is going on in the recipients lives. If you can't be bothered to be polite about name changes in a world of divorces, something else would seem to be going on, you know? A couple of details near the end . ..what is going on in those people's life, for instance, are exaggerated, but the rest is absolutely a true story. My blog simply gave me the opportunity to rather anonymously (would people who never read my Christmas card, read my blog? Of course not!) say something I've wanted to say for years lol.

A co-worker, his wife and he choose not to have children, talks about money (will he have enough for retirement), his divorced neighbor who is now living on the streets, and the latest ailment of his aging parents and inlaws. Would he be talking about more things full of life if he had children? Probably not. I think he choose his path (children or no) many years ago. Children can change a person's life.
